one of the yesteryears heartthrobs and beauty queen hails from Andhra Pradesh. Her grandparents were very rich landlords, and her grandfather was a Village Panchayat President at that time. Her mother was popular actress. Her father Mahendra was a veterinary doctor who earlier worked as a lawyer too. She learnt classical dance forms of Bharatanatyam from Valvaru Samrajyam master and Kuchipudi from Sree M.S. Saiva and Sree Vempati China Satyam from the age of four. It was during her school days she was selected to play daughter to actor Gummadi in the Telugu film Bhakta Pothana in 1966 when she was six years old. That was her first film. After that, she started doing films as a child artiste. It was the ace director Vithalacharya who suggested her name to K.S. Gopalakrishnan who was looking for a heroine in the Tamil film Korathi Magan. She played the role of a businessman\'s daughter who falls in love with a lower caste boy. The film was a big hit and ran for more than 100 days in many centers. With the success of the film, she became very busy in Tamil and did almost 24 films in less than two years! It was director Gopalakrishnan who changed her name from Rohini to Jayachitra, based on astrology. As she became busy in films, she appeared for her X class examinations in private, with special permission. Working with legends like NTR, Nageswara Rao, Sobhan Babu, Krishna, etc. in Telugu, with MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, and others in Tamil, Rajkumar in Kannada, she acted with almost all the top stars of that era. She did notable films like Annadaata, Daivabalam, Panduranga Mahatmyam, Puthu Puthu Arthangal, Agni Nathchathiram, Illamai Oonjaladugirathu, etc. She is married to a businessman, Ganesh. Her son Amrish is a graduate of Visual Communication. He is also a good musician and is ready to set his foot steps into film industry as a music director and settled in Madras. She proved her popularity in nearly all of south Indian cinema.
