Dia Mirza Biography

Dia Mirza was born on 9 December, 1981 in Hyderabad. Her father, Frank Handrich, was a german national who was an interior designer by profession. Her mother’s name is Deepa who is a Bengali Indian.
Dia’s mother and father got divorced when she was 6 years old. Three years after that her father died. Dia’s mother, Deepa, later married Ahmed Mirza. Ahmed Mirza passed away in 2004. Dia retained her step father’s surname even after his death. Later she added her birth father’s family name to her name as well and became Dia Mirza Handrich.
Dia ventured into the world of modelling very early with assignments from Lipton, Emami etc. This encouraged her to try out for Femina Miss India competition. Dia won 2nd runner up and represented India in manila that year. She went on to be crowned Miss Asia-Pacific 2000 becoming the second Indian to win this award after a gap of 29 years.
Due to the responsibilities of her title and modelling assignments Dia was unable to finish her graduation.
She made her debut on the big screen with ‘Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein’ in 2001. The movie did not do well at the box office and was unable to launch her acting career with a roar. Following this movie Dia has continued to make her presence felt in the industry.
Her upcoming projects include ‘Familwala’ and ‘Naa Naa Karte’.
